I received one of my re-ment packages today, so I had fun looking through everything and playing with the little pieces.

Until I get a roombox built, I really can't display much. But, with a few minutes of my time, I put together a small scene and was laughing the entire time.

Tomorrow, I should receive the kitchen/stove unit, the refrigerator, and a few other small boxes of re-ment miniatures.

Keep an eye out, because I'm sure that I'll have lots of interesting photos to share.

I have found a new obsession... Boopsiedaisy dolls. She makes the BEST dolls ever. They are cute, original, and smell like pure euphoria. You can see the attention that Boopsie pays to detail, and she always seems to find a way to outdo herself.

In this photo, 4 of the 6 dolls now belong to me. As soon as I receive them, I will definitely post photos. From left to right, I have the first 4. The ballerina is the only doll currently available, so be sure to pick it up ASAP in her shop!

These dolls will make a great addition to Zombina and Spidora!

I have been having a BLAST putting up new photos and new shelving in my home. My husband and I live in a small 2.5 bedroom [somehow, there's a small room with no closet, but it's big enough for my sewing area], 1 bath home. Our entire home has 2 closets [one in each bedroom] and a small corner closet in the bathroom. We really have no storage room. :(

So, with all of the new shelving I'm putting up, I'm able to display more of my treasures that were once boxed up and put away. I came across these tins and a little kewpie doll that are happy to be out and about. I have 2 Tootsie Pop tins, 1 Sugar Daddy, and 1 Now & Later. They are so adorable.

I also made myself leave the house yesterday to go look around at some thrift shops. I've been holing myself up, and I'm rather enjoying it. For the past 2-3 years, I have burned myself out trying to work 55 hours a week and do everything else that is expected of me. I love to work and do things, but I find that I volunteer myself far too often and now I'm done. I just can't go anymore. Couple that with the recent addition of Yaz to my life [to help regulate horomones], and I feel like a complete whack-job right now. Yikes.

Anyway, these are the small things that make me happy. The items that remind me of being a kid. The trips on my bike to the store at the end of the street to get my mom a pack of cigarettes and myself a 5 cent pack of Now & Laters. I'll be 28 this year and it's weird to think that I can now tell stories like that, haha.

A view into my home...

Here is a look into my living room [and how it came to look the way it does].

I had time this weekend to finally frame a bunch of prints. Primarily, I get most of my art from Etsy and I love it that way. Nothing makes me happier than to decorate and colorize my home from fellow Etsy artists.

My biggest collection is from Pinkytoast, and a few months ago I was lucky enough to purchase a Pinkytoast original. I have wanted an original for YEARS, and things just so happened to go my way. [Photos below]

[ABOVE]: Corner #1 of my living room. White couch is a hand-me-down. Red couch, lamp, green rug, and laptop table are from Ikea. Coffee table and end table is from EQ3. Prints on back wall are from Matty8080. Blue clock is from EQ3 and print beneath is from Stoopidgerl.

Corner #2 of my living room. A glimpe of my Pinkytoast wall above the TV. I still have a few more that need to be framed, but I have to get more frames.

My husband and I live in a small mill/farm house that has been slightly remodeled on the outside. When we moved in, we replaced the floors, painted every single wall, added lots of color, and put our personal touches in the rooms. It's really amazing what you can do with just a little bit of paint and patience!

Corner #3 of my living room. More Pinkytoast prints, some personal photos, and doorways into our bedroom, kitchen, and the spare room which is our "computer room".

As I said before, this is a small house. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, a small bonus room that is my sewing room, decent sized kitchen, and a laundry room. The walls were originally wood paneling, so we used Kilz to prime the walls, and many coats of paint. That, alone, totally changed the feel of the home.

Corner #4 of my living room. Red couch from Ikea. Circle canvas painted by my husband. Built in shelves originally had UGLY glass doors on them. We removed the glass doors, painted the inside of the shelves the same as the trim, and filled them with Books and our GIGANTIC movie collection.

Medium sized green shag rug pulls everything together, I think! ♥

Now that you have had a look into my living room, I would like to share closer photos the recent additions of artwork [as mentioned earlier in this post].

New hair.

I change my hair color on a regular basis. In the past year, my hair has been black, white, green, and pink.

I've always loved red hair, but red dye and I do not get along. Plus, I'm generally too lazy to keep it touched up. While searching online for the best red hair dye, I came across Loreal HiColor in RED. I then realized that a friend, Xiane had recommended that very color.

Since the color is formulated for dark hair, it did a great job on mine! The total cost was less than $10 [you have to buy the color and the developer]. I do have a few black streaks that were not touched by the color, but those are pieces that were previously dyed black and have yet to grow out. Every piece of my natural hair, however, is very very red! I'm impressed and so very happy to finally have a PERMANENT red red hair dye.

$1 Frames!

I love buying art on Etsy, and recently, started aquiring a huge collection of ACEOs. However, one problem remained: how to display them.

After leaving work yesterday, I stopped by Dollar Tree to have a look around. Walked by the frames, and saw tons of frames that were made to hold three 2.5" x 3.5" photos. FOR $1. I bought 6 frames, filled them up with ACEOs, and called Bo to have him pick up 12 more frames. Most of these will be on display in my sewing room due to the lack of space on walls in the other rooms. So far, I have displayed a few in the living room and kitchen.

For those who know me, it is a FACT that I love being a kid from the 80s. If I could, I would go back and relive those times all over again. Seriously, the 80s had the best toys and cartoons.

Last Friday, I started reminiscing about all the toys I had as a kid. A certain clear vinyl Rainbow Brite umbrella came to mind. This prompted a search on Ebay for that umbrella, but nothing was found. However, during my search, an UNOPENED 1983 Rainbow Brite doll appeared and had 1 day left of bidding. I put in my max bid and received an email over the weekend that I had won the auction for $29. YES, $29! The original price sticker is still on the box. I am so happy and excited about this doll [and I promise NOT to open it].

Soon, I'll try to document all of my toys. I have an extensive collection and I'm lucky to have a room just for my craziness [my crafty/sewing/toy room].

Now that the cramps have chilled out a bit, I'm ready to start my day. I still have another hour or two at work. I have a lot to do, so here's my to-do list:

Measure all unframed artwork
Go to Hobby Lobby to buy frames
Sew some pouches and possibly a bag
Take photos of items that have yet to be listed
Hang my ACEOs [idea taken from Stoopidgerl, with her permission of course]
Clean sewing room, oil machine, and organize fabric

I'm in dire need of organization in my sewing room. To most, my room is already organized. However, I feel a sense of panic when I try to look for a particular fabric. I'm thinking color coordinating the fabric would help. Also, I love to label... so, I'm on the lookout for a good, cheap label printer. I have a small Brother label printer at work and I'm fairly happy with it.

I'm also in the planning stages of a major re-organization of my Etsy shop. I want better photos, better descriptions, and better flow. The past 3 years have taught me a lot and I want to continue to better my shop!

By the way, my 3 year Etsy-versary is June 18th. Perhaps I will have a big sale, something I have never done!

Possible pattern.

I've been thinking about writing up a pattern for the zip pouches that I make.

True, it is not a hard pattern. However, I am always having people ask how I do them. With this pattern, I could explain each step that I follow and use very detailed photos.

Since there are scores of people who sell zipper pouches, I wouldn't mind if the pattern was used for those who want to make their own pouches and sell them.

I'm thinking that I would charge $4-$5 dollars for the pattern. In doing so, I would offer support for those who purchase the pattern. Also, if the pattern is revised in any way, the revisions will be sent out to those who have previously purchased the pattern.

This is just an idea. I am very flattered that people come to me looking for advice.

And FYI: the zipper insertion is actually very simple! :)

Crafty Feast

Crafty Feast was a huge success for me. Not only did I bring home more cash than ever before, I had lots of fun hanging out in Columbia the night before.

I stayed in the Sheraton Downtown Columbia. The building is a very old bank building that has been turned into a hotel while keeping its original charm [including the vault]. The rate was awesome and I had the room entirely to myself. I did find the flat screen television in the bathroom amusing.

Friday night was spent with Happytrees and her husband. We ate and drank some beer [at a great price] at The Whig and walked ALL OVER downtown Columbia afterward looking for karaoke. Nothing. Walked for what seemed like hours back to The Whig, drank more beer, and SOMEONE [not myself] decided to do shots at 2 am. ;)

Got into bed sometime between 3:30am and 4:00am. Woke up at 7:30am, showered, coffee, and was at the park for Crafty Feast by 9:00am.

We hung out with Debi and her boyfriend at The Whig and had a great time. Great people!

Hopefully Crafty Feast will make a return next year and we'll do this all over again.

A sharp pain started in my right ear last night, so I called into work and made an appointment to get it checked. She said that all of my pain and sickness is coming from my right ear. I have an inner and outer ear infection. I had many problems with ear infections when I was younger, but thought at 27 that I had grown out of it. Wow, I was wrong.

Needless to say, I haven't been able to get any bags made. I have the materials cut and ready to go.

Ugh. The past two days have kicked my ass. Mostly my throat. I have lots of patches of pus on my tonsils and I go back and forth with a fever.

Regardless, being sick kept me home most of the day and I was able to finish a custom order AND get my sewing room cleaned. I have TONS of crafty items that I need to share with others.

Wishlist for walls.

Christmas is approaching. My friends and husband say I'm the hardest [yet easiest] person to shop for. They never know what to get me even though I insist that ANYTHING makes me happy. I'm a simple girl, easily pleased, and cheap to boot. When Bo and I first started dating, he would bring me rings from the quarter machines at the sub shop he worked at. I thought they were the greatest gifts ever. I'm not a fan of expensive things [i.e. my wedding costs maxed out at about $100... seriously]. So why do people have such a hard time shopping for me? Make it ridiculous, make it silly, make it ME. Better yet, MAKE something for me.

And still, people will wonder, "What do I get Melissa for Christmas?" *sigh*

Out of boredom, I put together a small wishlist of things I want for my walls. My husband and I love to buy original art, prints, etc.

Tara McPherson rocks my world. I love everything she does, but I must admit, I love her gig posters the best. Even better than a Tara McPherson gig poster? A Tara McPherson gig poster for the Melvins! Not only is this poster awesomely cute, my husband is a huge Melvins fan and would love to have this adorn a wall in our home. Rock on, Tara, rock on.

Being an 80s child, I *LOVE* Ghostbusters. The cartoon, the movies, and the toys all hold a special place in my heart. You can only imagine my joy when I happened upon this photo/print from Boopsiedaisy. I have been an admirer of her shop for quite a while, but this just seals the deal with some extra super glue. This is definitely on my buy list for Christmas and it will hang proudly in my sewing room. There is a whole world of color waiting for you in Boopsiedaisy's shop, so go take a look... NOW.

Oh PinkyToast! I have been buying from PinkyToast for over a year now. If I remember correctly, I have 3 PinkyToast prints and 3 pocket mirros. Did everyone have a great weekend? I had a slow, but fun, weekend.

Saturday, I headed out to Charlotte to attend our November meetup at Carolina Place Mall [being the Hornet's Nest Etsy Street Team]. We had quite a few new people and we welcome them with open arms. Actually, this meetup was our largest yet! Since this is our first meetup since CRAFT ATTACK!, we were laid back and just enjoyed being together. We did share secrets and tips and talk a lot about crafting. It was lots of fun and I hope the new attendees come back again and again! I'm proud of our group and how far we've come since we started meeting in January 2007.

Sunday, Bo and I puttered around the house, ate breakfast, and then helped his mom clean out the building behind our house. While they were working on other projects, I pulled out a folding table and chair and worked on some cameo pieces that I will be selling at ICE on Saturday. The weather was beautiful, the wind was blowing, and leaves were falling down on top of me. It was perfect. I finished my project, and Bo and I went to our friend Ben's house. We drove out to Flat Rock and messed around in the woods. After parting ways, we decided to meet back up with Ben and Jennifer to have dinner at Ham's. Went home, cuddled up on the couch, and watched a movie with Bo before heading to bed.

It was the best weekend I've had in a very long time.

AND, Saturday is Indie Craft Experience in Atlanta! I will be at booth #95. Stop by and say hi because I love meeting new people. I will have items that have not yet been released in my shop, so check it out before everyone else does! :D

This is photo 14 of my 365 day journey.

I am particularly excited about this photo, because I found a great tutorial on doing fake TTV photos and this photo was my first attempt. Xiane and I are currently sitting at the coffee shop playing with our newly obtained skills.

View the tutorial here. I've played with layering photos before, but never like this. My husband has taught me a lot with Photoshop, but I seem to learn something new every time I use it.

In other news, my stomach still isn't right and I have so much to do. Tomorrow is our [Hornet's Nest Etsy Streem Team] monthly meeting and I am looking forward to it. Saturday night and Sunday will be spent finishing up a few pieces for the Indie Craft Experience show on November 15, then back to work in which I will have no time to do anything.

I also have LOTS of new bags in the making, but I can't force myself to finish them. On Christmas Day, I will be the proud owner of a brand new Bernina. I am so excited that the Kenmore has been pushed off to the side and sewing seems to have taken the back burner until my new pride and joy arrives. I had the opportunity to take a Mastery class for my "soon-to-be" Bernina, and I've barely touched my other sewing machine since. Basically, WHERE HAS THIS MACHINE BEEN ALL MY LIFE? It does things I didn't know were possible!

I hope everyone is doing well and I promise to be more productive once my stomach quits being a pain in my ass.

Anniversary, getaway, and swollen ankle, OH MY!

Bo and I had a great time in Asheville while celebrating our 4th anniversary. We ate at our favorite places, drank some top notch beer, and spent a lot of time in the cabin together, alone. That really sums up our trip [and that's exactly how I wanted it].

One place that we visited for the first time was Bruisin' Ales in Asheville, NC. Not only is the name awesome, but the selection rocks and the people working there were amazing.

I had one particular beer in mind that I wanted to try. After looking through the selection, I found it! Founders Breakfast Stout. Here's what their website says about the beer:

I created my own six pack which included all stouts and I was particularly excited about the Founders Breakfast Stout and The Poet, an oatmeal stout.

The lady working the register highly recommended the Breakfast Stout, gave me directions to places that had amazing beer on tap, and made small talk. I highly recommend Bruisin' Ales to ANYONE who is close to Asheville, NC and loves good beer.

Bo and I decided to attend Charles and Becky's Halloween party about 4 hours before it started. We had no costumes, so we ran to a Halloween store in Asheville, grabbed a quick costume, and drove from Asheville to Charlotte. I had a blast. Perhaps a little too much fun. Right before the night ended, I decided to swing on this handmade tree swing. Basically, I remember being on my back laughing at the fact that I fell. The next morning? Not so much laughter since my ankle was swollen and almost impossible to walk on.

That's a recap of what happened while I was gone. I am back and will be getting ready for ICE in Atlanta on November 15! Come see me if you're in the area! :)

Oh, the Breakfast Stout? A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I'm going to stock up next time I find it. Since it's a seasonal beer, I better hurry!

Anniversary vacation awaits

Halloween day will make our 4th anniversary. About every other year, we make a trip to Asheville to spend a few days in the cabin to your left. It's tucked away in a little wooded area, but only a 5 minute drive to downtown. This is where we came for our honeymoon in 2004.

I met Bo in the summer of '99. I had graduated school, left home, and was living with some girl [that I regret doing] before I headed to college. Bo and I had mutual friends, but had somehow never managed to meet one another. I had always heard, "You should meet Bo, you'd really like him." for months. Well, while walking through Wal-Mart [yeah, I no longer go to Wal-Mart] I happened to see Dan and Bo just happened to be with him. I said hi, looked at some music [sucky selection, nonetheless] and walked off. I went off to college without seeing Bo again. I had been using IRC for a while, and found out that Bo also used IRC. We were on Efnet and he created #pimpchat for us to hang in, alone. We would talk, flirt, and spend hours upon hours online each day. I would go through periods where I absolutely HATED Bo. Time passed and I left school a year later. I moved back in with my parents and decided to call Bo. We started hanging out all the time. I'm stubborn and he's shy, so we never committed to a relationship. Our friends had to talk to us and basically tell us to start dating, so we did. A few months later, we moved in with one another. I realize that was fast, but you really have to know Bo and I. We're definitely not your "norm" couple. We lived together through financial troubles, shitty cars, crappy houses, etc. We were young and were trying our best to live on our own. Things started shaping up a few years later, and we decided to get married on October 31, 2004. We got married in a Masonic Lodge to a Methodist pastor that absolutely hated the idea of a Halloween wedding. Our wedding was completely DIY and cost about $100. Our rings were free, my mother-in-law made my dress, and we used Halloween decorations. Everyone dressed up and we had the coolest wedding ever.

A few months ago, Xiane introduced me to a site called shirt.woot! If you are not familiar with shirt.woot, please go take a look. Each day, they feature 1 shirt for $10.00 with free shipping. If you opt for next day, a very very fair price of $5 is tacked on. The shirts are colorful, unique, and fun. Some days, I hate the designs. However, most days, I love them. I am particularly amused by today's shirt. I am quite obsessed with zombies, so it's no surprise that I had to grab this shirt before the day was over. I mean, come on, who doesn't love this shirt! Since joining at the beginning of September, I have acquired 20 woot shirts! They use American Apparel tshirts. Before order from shirt.woot, I had never worn an American Apparel shirt. Honestly, I was scared of them. I'm not a fan of thin tshirts or form fitting shirts. However, American Apparel tshirts are top notch and I love the way they feel. I ordered the same size that I wear in other brand shirts and they fit me perfectly [and not too tight].

Day 5 of my 365 quest. I voted early! The line took about an hour to get through, and the process took about 5 minutes. I voted Obama and am very excited and happy with my first voting experience. I will definitely make it a point to vote from now on. I was ballot #9404 in my county. Remember that number, it's the number that made a difference, haha.

After voting, made a trip to the coffee shop to get a Mocha. I introduced Bo to Eric and listened to Eric and another guy discuss the election and those voting for Obama. I think Bo was a bit upset with what they were saying. Oh well... doesn't bother me. Shrug it off, plus, I like Eric.

Off to Eckerd [or Rite Aid] and picked up my prescriptions. I desperately needed my Nexium because my old friend Heartburn has been making frequent visits lately. The Nexium works okay.

Fast stop for dinner with Bo and mother-in-law at Chick-Fil-A. I'm not sure if this is the norm, but we always have fresh flowers on our table. Weird for a fast food place, but definitely welcome. I'm not a fan of flowers, but I found our flower especially awesome. I have no idea why. Maybe it was because I just happened to have my camera with me. Who knows.

Tomorrow I have plans to go to the coffee shop and work more on establishing my blog and looking around on Ravelry. I am excited about become more active in these endeavors!

I am the proud owner of a brand new Ravelry account! If you are on Ravelry and want to add me as a friend, you can find me here. I am very excited about being a part of Ravelry. I have been knitting for about 2 years now, but I am still very much a knitter. I have found myself to be a spastic knitter. To elaborate, I will knit every day for a month, then I'll put it to the side and will knit again in 6-8 months. Since my schedule has died down a bit, I now have time to devote to knitting and I want to expand my skills and try new projects. This is where Ravelry comes into play!

My buddy, Xiane, is amazing at spinning. She has been my inspiration to start knitting again, plus we have lots of fun doing different things at our favorite hangout - Broad River Coffee Shop.

After knitting up two scarves using handspun yarn from Xiane and Blondechicken, I am in love. Handspun yarn is never boring to knit and always creates a unique look - even if you are knitting a boring scarf!

So, with the help of my dear friend, I want to learn to spin. I don't want to spin all the time or make a serious hobby of it, but how rewarding would it be to spin your own yarn and knit something for yourself?

I love getting mail, especially packages from Etsy sellers!

Today, I found 2 packages in my mailbox [tangled in a mess of bills - YUCK].

The first package was from Stoopidgerl! I bought my first Stoopidgerl necklace a few weeks ago and have been in love ever since. I wish I had 1/2 of the resin skills that she does. I have been making resin jewelry for almost a year now, but her jewelry just pops. The colors, the layers, the humor. I want to own each.and.every.piece.in.her.shop!

The green skull necklace was a custom order from Stoopidgerl. Her customer service is top notch, from the convos prior to shipping up to the little personal THANK YOU notes. As a perfectionist and one that spends a lot of time prepping each and every package that I ship out, I really appreciate others who do the same.

I have been eyeing some of her fine art prints for some time now. I have a few in mind and I will be purchasing those very soon!

Second package was a skein of handpainted yarn called TWIST from Life in Lilt on Etsy. The colors are vibrant and I want to knit the calorimetry pattern on Knitty with this. I am so addicted to yarn right now, and I found out about Life In Lilt on a random blog I happened upon... I can't remember the name of it. Damn.

Happenings of the past week, and the week to come!

First of all, in the past week, I have been more active on Twitter, Flickr, and Myspace. I really want to get involved and help spread the word of Snitches Get Stitches.

I decided to join a Flickr group called 365 Tweetsy. I'm very excited about this project and now I have excuses to take random photos every day. This is going to be fun! Take a look! Yesterday's photo is a peak into my new labels. I decided to do this because while my items are very well branded, I don't have a uniform look with my booth setup. I have decided to keep the pink/green look and created a simple, yet uniform, label for my necklaces, rings, and hair accessories. I will still be using the original Snitches get Stitches hangtags for bags and pouches. I'm going to simplify my booth. Here is a sneak peak of the new labels:

I have also been knitting. I recently purchased a skein of handspun yarn from Blonde Chicken Boutique and fell in love. I'm a beginner knitter, so I made a very simple scarf with the handspun yarn. WOW. Blonde Chicken has an eye for style and color [and I loved the little sequins that knitted up nicely].

I want to work on this Calorimetry pattern from Knitty.com. I found the perfect handpainted yarn for this pattern. I hope to have this yarn in my hands by Wednesday.

On Thursday, Bo and I are heading to Asheville to spend 4 days in a nice little cabin for our Anniversary. Halloween will make 4 years that we've been married, and I do not regret a single moment. We were truly meant for one another!

CRAFT ATTACK! was a success!

Well, CRAFT ATTACK has come and gone. This opens up time for me to focus on Snitches Get Stitches. I will be rolling out new designs very soon and I will be doing a few shows in the Southeast during the Holiday season!

More about that later.

So, let's talk about CRAFT ATTACK! My alarm clock went off at 4:00 am. I stumbled my way to the bathroom so I could brush my teeth and wake everyone up [ Redpanda, her boyfriend, and my husband]. Since we packed everything up the night before, we headed toward Charlotte at 4:45 am. About 5:30, we arrive at the park. It's quiet. Dark. I did not want to work.

We started unloading the cars, dragging water to the check-in area and putting our booth setup crap in our spaces. My mother-in-law and husband did a great job of helping me with everything. I did not have time to setup my entire booth on my own. About 6:45 am, vendors started arriving. Before I knew it, the show had started.

I had so much fun meeting everyone, walking around, and shopping! Oh man, I bought so much stuff and even scored a trade! The atmosphere was wonderful, the people were happy, and I just walked around with the biggest smile on my face. The wind became a huge problem with tents flying over, displays crashing, and acorns falling on heads. However, everyone seemed to have a great attitude and found ways to deal with the wind.

For me, the show was the most successful show to date for Snitches Get Stitches. I have a very selective market, so of course I may not do as well as most vendors. Once the day was over and I tallied my sales, I was happy to see that I had sold a record amount compared to other shows.

I want to give a huge shoutout to the following individuals... I had a blast talking to everyone, but somehow I wandered into these booths multiple times!

Seriously. I just watched a female police officer drive up to the coffee shop in her personal car, get out, take off her belt [which includes her gun, night stick, handcuffs, etc] and place it in her car. That may not sound bad, but the door is unlocked AND THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN.

She must not realize that this is 2008 in Shelby. What a dumbass. I'm going to walk up to the counter and try to get her name so I can report her. I don't want to get shot because of someone else's stupidity.

No wonder the crime rate here is so ridiculously high.

I just wanted to share what I'm experiencing right now. It is pouring outside. It's just the perfect, steady [but not so heavy] type of rain that makes a soothing sound. I'm at the coffee shop and can hear the sound of the rain as I look out the window. I'm sipping an Americano and getting some work finished. This is wonderful. Plus, we definitely needed the rain.

The weekend

The weekend. Oh where do I begin.

Friday was spent with Xiane drinking coffee and acting extremely silly. Quoting movies and world domination... or something like that. I had a great time.

Saturday was spent with Xiane [again]. We went craft shopping, book shopping, and coffee sipping at Starbucks in Barnes & Noble. Instead of really talking to Xiane while drinking coffee, I stared quite childishly at the board game selection. I wish I could purchase each and every one of them. What a great selection. I'm glad she can put up with me at times like that.

Oh, and perler beads. I bought perler beads. I decided that I do not like perler beads. Nope. Another craft bit the dust.

Sunday I woke up to a phone call from my sister. She starts by "Don't you know xxxx xxxxx". I answer yes, quite confused. My sister and I do not know the same people. Quietly, she informs me that he ended his life the previous night. At first, disbelief. I tell Bo. He doesn't believe it. I tell her I'm calling [his] brother. Brother says it's true and they don't know why. Then, SHOCK. Disbelief comes in a few more times. Then it hits me and I cry. I cry for not being able to tell someone goodbye AGAIN this year. What's my luck? How do I lose [how does BO lose] two people in tragic means with no way of getting that one last moment. He was so young. He was so happy. He was our friend. I'm doing okay today despite this. Perhaps he really wanted it that way. Sometimes you just can't fight anymore. He will be missed. I'll definitely miss the days when his mom would take us to shows. Ha, that's actually funny to think about... I'm almost 27 now.

You know how they say you don't know how much you'll miss something until it's gone? Well, it's true. So very true. We didn't see each other so much over the past few years. Bo saw him quite frequently. He had many tattoos from Bo and had been getting tattooed from Bo since Bo started tattooing. I think it's awesome that he will forever have artwork from Bo. We still have the funeral. I will tell him goodbye then.

Just do me a favor. I know people say it all of the time in situations like this, but never ever take anyone for granted. Family -OR- friends. You really never know how much time you have left with that person.

New rings and new packaging.

Here is a small sample of the rings I have available and will have available shortly in my shop. I'm really excited about these. I plan on ordering another mold for an expansion of sizes. My husband and I have lots of fun making these!

I also created my own envelopes for the smaller items I will be shipping. I came up with a template and worked on it until I was happy with it. The envelopes are padded and I love being able to decorate the back. I was inspired to do this by Xiane [although, she probably doesn't know it]. She's been a great friend and has taught me a lot over the past year and a half. I owe her... a lot!

By the way, if anyone wants the template that I created, just ask. I can always just upload the template. It's really fast, cheap, easy, and fun to do!

I spent the a good portion of the day today [while at work] getting caught up on my Myspace account for Snitches Get Stitches. I worked on my Flickr account since I upgraded to Pro and can now upload more photos and have more sets. I'm doing as much as I can to get the word out. Now I just need to get my Twitter account up and running! ;)

Coffee date tomorrow with Xiane... hopefully. I always look forward to that.

Blisters, oh the pain!

Yesterday, I got off work early at noon. I spent the rest of the day [until 11:30pm] assembling the resin pieces that Bo and I had made over the last few days. I know assembling doesn't sound like too much, but it is. I hand sanded EACH piece, put eye screws in each necklace, cut each ball chain necklace, and pieced the rings together. This resulted in three [quite painful] blisters on my fingers. The rings are curing further before I take photos and list them.

I hope people enjoy these little tokens of spooky cuteness. This is just an example: I haven't had time to list all of them yet, but I'm slowly getting it done. To see photos of all that are completed, visit my FLICKR.

I have so many things I want to make that I usually forget them once I think of something new. Yikes.

I *FINALLY* found a bookstore that has his books available. I know, I know... I could have ordered it from Amazon.com, Ebay, or a plethora of other online sites. However, there's just something that I love about going to bookstores and sifting through thousands of books while sipping on my favorite coffee drink. I love the smell of bookstores and the happiness that I get from mindlessly grabbing, gawking, reading, inspecting, etc. books.

Just in case you're in the area and interested in reading some of his works, I found him at Barnes and Noble in Hickory, NC. Oh, and lots of William S. Burroughs as well!!!

Finally! I finished the packaging and final touches to some of the jewelry pieces for my shop. Most necklaces are $18 and earrings are $12. I'm really excited about these pieces. Trust me, my husband and I are working on more, much more!

I purchased colored zippers (which I have never used... only black zippers) from KungFuCowgirl to use in my zip pouches. I should start listing more of them very soon. I am going to offer two sizes now. One size will be the normal size that I have always carried and the other will be smaller (only slightly) and perhaps more square. I haven't created the pattern yet. By the way, the lady at KungFuCowgirl is ultra sweet.

I also plan to have new bags. I have new ideas and can't wait to sew them. Which reminds me... I went to Hobby Lobby the other day [since I was in the area]. I was running low on the Pellon Peltex 70 that I use in some of my items. I took the bolt to the counter to have it cut and the price tag showed $7.99/yd. Umm, what? I said nevermind to the guy. I know I've been out of it for a few months, but seriously, that stuff was $2.50 at MOST earlier this year. I'm going to Mary Jo's to see if their price has increased that much before I decide to take another course and try something new. At that rate, I'd have to increase the price of my bags 30%. That's not going to happen.

Friday, oh Friday. Xiane and I went to the coffee shop for energized chatter, crazy critter talk, and a scheduled online chat with members from our Etsy street team. Since Xiane has recently persuaded me to become addicted to Mochas, I can't STOP. Oh my god, I don't even want to think about the calories that I've been consuming from them in the past week.

I bought two critters from Adoptacritter. One was for myself and the other for Xiane. Seriously, they are the cutest, most awesome critters you'll ever find. We found out that our critters like to eat people... especially those that piss us off. We won't get into that here. Anyway, I always have a great time at the coffee shop with Xiane.

I have more to update with, but for now, I am busy at work. I will also be updating VERY SOON with some necklaces and rings that I will be introducing into my shop. Be excited... very excited.

I spent yesterday "supply" shopping. It's always a bad idea when I go because I never know when to stop. I like it though! Michael's currently has a sale on these photo boxes at 3 for $5. I bought 15 of them and placed them in the built in shelf area in our living room. I actually like the way they look [just a burst of color] and it provides LOTS of storage room. I have everything from paper scraps to AV jacks in those boxes. Go, go, go... I think the sale ends Saturday.

I'm about to list another collage ACEO. I had so much fun making this one. Initially, it was to be titled "Keep your pimp hand strong". However, this title works just as well. This ACEO was made using watercolor paper, cardstock background, vintage image from damaged children's book, vintage image from a school health book, and a vintage quote from a psychology book. $6.00

I'm having a good day after I inadvertently broke our new printer. Oh, and "somehow" [I won't mention any names], our digital cable box quit working.

Making changes.

Slowly, but surely, we have been aquiring new furniture. Bo and I have been living together for 7 years [married for 4]. We have purchased a bed, dining table, coffee table, and end tables. Recently, I found a great buy on a Clik-Clak Sofa Futon for $199. Even though it's a futon, I love it. It looks so much better than the country blue, oversized sofa that we aquired when we moved into this house. Also, we just purchased a Bossa TV Unit from EQ3. It definitely looks better than the ultra-ginormous entertainment center that we received as a wedding gift from my mom.

Next month we will be replacing our crappy, blown-own-white television. We found an LG plasma unit for a great price.

We also [finally] found a place for the Matty8080 zombie prints that we ordered a few weeks ago. I'll take a photo soon. We still need to find a place for 2 new Miss Van prints and 2 Pinky Toast prints. Buying art [especially on Etsy] is great.

A year later, I'm taking action.

It has been almost a year since my last post. I've gone through some changes, so I now have more time to dedicate to Snitches Get Stitches. Through my own decision, I parted ways with Coffin Color. I will miss being a part of Coffin Color, but I know that Xiane will take very good care of it. Plus, we're just a minute or two from one another!

I look forward to sewing again, crafting with no purpose, and getting my shop up to par. In the next month, I will be introducing more hair accessories, custom jewelry, and nifty ACEOs by yours truly. Who knows what else I may come up with. I will also start restocking my shop with bags, pouches, and bandanas.

I currently have a destash shop called Snitches Get Stashes on Etsy. Here you will find some vintage supply items, items that I have more than enough of, and random nonsense.

My husband and I merged our shops together. He will be doing the artwork for some of the necklaces that will debut in the next month. Think graffiti.

I promise to post all things Melissa, including posts about my life, my craft endeavors, and my cats! Maybe some Guinness here or there.
